HAECO, a world-leading aircraft engineering and maintenance solutions provider, is proud to announce its partnership with the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre (LSCM), a leading research centre in logistics automation, in implementing Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) solutions at HAECO’s cutting-edge maintenance facility in Hong Kong. This collaboration represents a significant leap in technological applications and operational innovation for HAECO, as it leverages robotics automation to boost productivity and efficiency.
The partnership combines HAECO’s extensive aircraft maintenance expertise with LSCM’s recognized R&D capabilities in robotics, automation, and smart logistics to deploy an AMR solution that optimizes material transport within HAECO’s expansive maintenance facility. By enabling the overnight delivery of aircraft tools and parts to maintenance bays, the automation technology will streamline HAECO’s operations and expedite turnaround times for maintenance work the following day.
“By automating the material delivery process, we enable our maintenance teams to focus on high-value tasks, enhancing both productivity and turnaround times for HAECO,” said Summit Chan, Group Director of Corporate Development at HAECO. “Our partnership with LSCM not only enhances our technological capabilities but also aligns with our vision to support Hong Kong’s innovation and technology ecosystem.”
“LSCM has been dedicated to the development of innovation and technology to enhance the industry’s efficiency and productivity. We are excited to collaborate with HAECO in developing robotics technology to enhance the efficiency of aircraft maintenance work and alleviate the workload of staff. We look forward to our further collaboration in the automation of their maintenance facility, fostering the digitalisation of the industry,” said Simon Wong, Chief Executive Officer, LSCM.
The AMR features a rear-mounted trolley system capable of transporting materials of various shapes and sizes, offering greater flexibility than traditional AMR systems which are limited to standard pallets or fixed shelving. Equipped with Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) technology, the AMR can map their surroundings in real time, determine their precise location and navigate autonomously through complex hangar environments. Furthermore, the AMR can manoeuvre smoothly across uneven surfaces and tight spaces, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable material delivery.
This innovation project was rolled out in the second quarter of 2025, with field trials set to commence in the fourth quarter. The deployment of AMRs underscores HAECO’s strong commitment to technological advancements in optimizing its operations, while also strengthening Hong Kong’s status as an innovation hub for aerospace, robotics, and smart logistics solutions.
