On 16 June, HAECO announced a joint venture with Sun Group, Toyota Tsusho, and Japan Airlines to establish a new maintenance base in Northeast Vietnam at Van Don International Airport.

As part of our long-term growth strategy in Asia, the US$360 million project will strengthen the region’s MRO capability by bringing international standards, proven systems and operational best practices. It will also expand local maintenance capacity, supporting one of the fastest-growing markets in the region.

Subject to relevant regulatory approvals, the new maintenance hangar will be one of the largest in Vietnam, covering approximately 170,000 square metres. It will be centred on a four-bay widebody hangar, with additional flexibility for narrowbody maintenance in the mid-bays. Operations are targeted to commence in late 2028.

Designed with sustainable operations and future expansion in mind, the project is expected to increase our Group’s airframe capacity to a total of 31 widebody and 10 narrowbody hangar bays globally. It also forms part of HAECO’s four-year investment plan, underpinned by over US$1 billion, and will create over 1,000 high-skilled jobs while helping to build a sustainable local talent pipeline.
