Wilfred Kwong is a visionary self-starter who blazed his own trail of success at HAECO. Rotating to different functions after joining HAECO as a Graduate Trainee 10 years ago, he immediately found his niche in the legal field, and made a strong case to the management to fund his studies to become a lawyer.

“I wrote a proposal to the management, arguing how I would be able to generate cost savings and benefit the company by establishing an in-house legal department. With support from HAECO, I turned my goal from a possibility into a reality,” Wilfred recounts.

When asked what appeals to him most about working at HAECO, Wilfred says it’s the people, many of whom have become his lifelong friends. “HAECO has a phenomenal family culture. The senior staff are extremely generous about sharing their secrets of success, I have benefitted a lot from their guidance. The prevailing culture here is one of mutual respect, friendliness and support. I feel lucky to have landed here and HAECO truly feels like a second home to me,” he exalted.

As the head of the Group Legal function, Wilfred is excited by the diversity of challenges he encounters every day. Tackling legal issues and presenting solutions to his colleagues in a non-legalese way also give him great satisfaction. Over the years, Wilfred has seen his role evolving with the changing legal landscape, especially in the area of compliance and with the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Always an optimist, he believes in overcoming challenges by turning obstacles into opportunities. 

Work responsibilities aside, Wilfred likes to write in his spare time. He is working on his first novel, putting new ideas from head to paper via an intuitive process, so that it feels like the novel is writing itself. His biggest joy and accomplishment is marrying his wife Candy, and being a dad to his two daughters Candice and Alice.
