Sekki Lee has been a cornerstone of HAECO’s operations for over four decades, primarily overseeing the base maintenance operations in Hong Kong. From his beginnings as a front-line mechanic to his current esteemed role as General Manager of Base Maintenance, his legacy is closely intertwined with HAECO’s pursuit of excellence.

Affectionately known by all as “Sekki gor” (“gor” means “older brother” in Cantonese), Sekki started his career at HAECO in 1983 through a technical apprenticeship program, inspired by his two elder brothers who also dedicated most of their careers to the company. It was a visit to a training class with one of his brothers that first ignited Sekki's passion for aircraft maintenance, propelling him to embrace various opportunities and challenges at HAECO.

After completing a training programme in Australia through the ASTA Aircraft Services (ASTAAS) scheme, Sekki returned to Hong Kong and became an aircraft maintenance engineer in 1995. His versatile skills led him to a secondment in Xiamen in 1997, where he played a key role in establishing HAECO’s new base maintenance facilities.

In Hong Kong, Sekki shoulders all the critical responsibilities of a General Manager in heavy aircraft maintenance. From managing hangar slots to estimating turnaround times and creating detailed maintenance plans, he and his team are committed to delivering comprehensive services to meet the needs of HAECO’s growing global customer base. They ensure every aspect of the company’s nose-to-tail services is executed with utmost care and precision.

“Boosting productivity and efficiency is vital for HAECO’s growth as a business. While we aim to introduce new technologies, recruiting and training young talent is equally important in our line of work,” Sekki explains regarding base maintenance priorities.

Sekki identifies four essential traits for outstanding employees in this field: a passion for aviation, decisiveness balanced with caution, a commitment to safety, and a strong sense of teamwork. He emphasizes that safety must be prioritized from the start to prevent accidents or inefficiencies, especially for tasks that involve working at heights. Ultimately, Sekki believes HAECO should be a place where everyone can work safely, just as the company’s mission is to ensure the safety of the skies.

“Safety is the foundation of our work and our top priority. Every team member must be able to return home unharmed at the end of each day,” said Sekki.

Sekki embodies the qualities of a visionary leader, and his professionalism, loyalty and caring spirit will leave a lasting impact long after he retires from HAECO. Let’s celebrate Sekki's unwavering dedication to aircraft maintenance, which has not only defined HAECO’s success but also inspires others to follow their passions and reach new heights in their aviation careers.
