Who would have thought that an airshow could shape the career dreams of an eight‑year‑old boy? For Sahil, the adrenaline‑fuelled aerial displays ignited a lifelong fascination with flight and set him on a journey to explore the endless possibilities of aviation.

Determined to build a career in aviation and make a home in Hong Kong, Sahil had long been familiar with HAECO’s name. Joining the world‑class maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider as a Graduate Trainee felt like a natural step towards turning his childhood dream into reality.

“HAECO is a company that constantly reflects on itself and looks for ways to improve,” Sahil says. The Group’s vibrant culture and adaptive working environment resonated deeply with his own belief in continuous self‑improvement.

What Sahil enjoys most is the scale of HAECO’s operations and the continuous learning opportunities it offers.  

“We don’t just fix aircraft — it’s much more than that,” he explains. As an independent MRO, HAECO has more flexibility to tailor products and services to customers’ needs. “The commercial side of the business is new to me, and it has been an interesting learning experience.”

That curiosity soon led Sahil to new opportunities. Together with three colleagues, he participated in a hackathon tackling real‑world industry challenges. Using AI‑based software solutions, the team addressed a recurring base maintenance issue related to aircraft towing and movement, winning first prize. The experience earned them a chance to attend a technology conference in Las Vegas and later served as the foundation of the Group Digital team’s hangar movement module.

Now working in Base Maintenance Programme Management, Sahil remains eager to learn. “Keep an open mind and seize every opportunity — that’s how you grow,” he advises. More than a year after his first rotation, Sahil believes stepping outside one’s comfort zone is essential. “If you’re always in the same space, you’re never going to grow.”
