Historical Development
Over the past century, Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has been part of some of the aviation industry’s most important milestones, from the Howard Wright Biplane in 1910 to Concorde’s maiden flight in 1969. Ever since, it has been expanding its footprint across the globe to accommodate rapidly expanding markets and emerging technologies.
Dunlop’s key developmental milestones include:
- 1910: Commenced the manufacture of aircraft tyres. DAT tyres were fitted to the Howard Wright Biplane.
- 1969: Concorde’s maiden flight used DAT tyres.
- 2009: JV with HAECO commenced re-tread operations in China to serve the Asia Pacific market.
- 2011: Honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise (International Trade).
- 2016: Opened a re-tread plant in the US to serve the Americas market. Received FAA approval of re-tread facilities in China and the US.
